The côco is a folk dance in both the interior and coast of North and Northeast Brazil, sung in chorus by couples in a circle responding to the verses of “tirador de coco” [coconut picker] or “coqueiro” [coconut tree]. The coqueiro dancing in the middle of the circle is replaced by any other dancer by a bow/curtsy or belly bucking. During the côco dance singing and dancing are marked by clapping hands.
